2009 Carnaby Street

I have recently seen Carnaby Street christmas decorations. Which consist of blow up inflatables. With pop up art style phrase bubbles and blow up reindeer. The decorations work well, set aganist the current floral exterior of the rear side of Libertys. I think they are inpressive, but still don't compare to the carnaby street of the swinging sixties.

To me the design obviously taking inspiration from the current pop life exhibtion at the Tate modern. The designs are inspired by the sixties culture of Carnaby street. The decorations are designed by Paul Dart from the James Glancy Design Agency.

I also particulary like the decorations of 2007 christmas of the big paper chains, in between the streets.

Small Harvey Nichols dolls - I can make to order

I am currently making small replicas of my life size collection of dolls for Harvey Nichols. I will be updating my website with photographs of the small dolls available. A doll would make a lovely christmas present.

Luella Good Times and Bad Times

The bad times is the current economic climate, meaning that one of my favourite designers Luella, is finishing. One of the main finacial backers, has pulled out, hopefully there will be a new investor soon. I have joined the Facebook group 'Save Luella!'. Where some of these lovely illustrations have been uploaded.

The good times, is there is still the Luella Christmas display at Libertys to gaze upon. The display consists of the windows, grotto, and the main entrance filled with lighting. The windows are themed by Luella Bartley, with a very British feel. One window has foxes, another has the Queen's speech on the television. Whilst visiting I recommend travelling up to the fourth floor for the haberdashery department. A lovely selection of fabrics, wools, and handmade items.

Jotta

I'm currently studying at Central Saint Martins, and part of the course is to network. Jotta is a social networking site for creatives, run by Central Saint Martins. I have created a profile and on the Immersion group, there is a post about my work, written by Calum Ross.

SHOWstudio Fashion Revolution exhibition

Synaesthesia

On friday I went to the SHOWstudio - Fashion Revolution exhibition at Somerset House. My favourite exhibits were the Design Download, Sweet, and Synaesthesia.

Design Download
This exhibit showed a range of designers such as Gareth Pugh's. The designers all created a design, which can be downloaded from the SHOWstudio website. So a array of designer items, is available to anyone to download the pattern pieces, then make the garment themselves. Truly interactive fashion, accessible to everyone. Junya Watanable dress was my favourite, I have downloaded the template, and I will attempt to make it for myself, once I have bought suitable fabric.

Sweet
Lo fi computer genreated manipulated imagery, from taking sweet wrapers as material to produce garments. Then photographed and turned into a short film. A collarborative piece with the stylist Jane How.

Synaesthesia
An interactive image, that allows a viewer to change an photograph of a model in a shirt. The changes are in sound and light. Using music and different coloured lights to stimulate the viewer's senses.

The exhibition is on till 20th December.
