Jake and Dinos Chapman - Portraits and Drawings

I recently went to the Jake and Dinos Chapman brothers exhibtion Portraits and Drawings at the Hastings museum. I studied at the same college as them, but not at the same time I hasten to add. Hastings college of arts and technology, which has sadly recently been moved to a new site.

There was a two rooms of pencil drawings and sculptures, my particular favourite was the two girls with long hair morphed into one figure.

Also there was another room, that at first glance appeared to be a room filled
with portraits from the 17th and 18th century. However mixed in there was old style paintings from the Chapman brothers. The 'One Day You Will No Longer Be Loved' series of canvases, (2008) from the White Cube collection. The Chapman brothers paintings mocked the vanity of the real portraits, by disfuigring the faces of their own subjects. A reoccuring theme was the removal of the nose, which relates to Freudian theory. One picture was of two little children, it had a strange feeling to it, complete with a tatty canvas.

The exhibition runs until 14th March.

Crafts Council

I recently joined the Crafts Council, directory of makers on the website. Hopefully by being listed it will lead to networking with other craft makers, and present new opportunites for collaborations. I also reguarly read the Crafts magazine, made by the Crafts Council.
