Fashion Finger Puppets

One of my inspirations is the fashion finger puppets, I came across these within the handbag and accesories department of Libertys. The puppets are created by Rubbish, a publishing and marketing creative company. There are numerous designers available costing from £5 to £65, they have featured on Vogue.com.

I particularly like the Viktor and Rolf cojoined pair, and the Isabella Blow one complete with iconic hat.
There are sets for each of the major fashion capitals. Green set for London, with the puppets Giles, Vivienne, Paul, Luella & Christopher. Red set for Milan, with the puppets Donatella, Giorgio, Miuccia, V&R & Anna. Blue set for Paris, with the puppets John, Karl, Sonia, Jean Paul & Alber. Yellow set for New York, with the puppets Andre, Zac, Donna, Hamish & Ralph. They also make politican puppets, I like the Boris Johnson one the best. As he is such a funny character knitted and in real life.

Saltpig Illustrations

Saltpig is a boutique shop down the highstreet in Falmouth Cornwall. I am collarborating with Mark Wilson, of 6 Foot 5 Design, www.6foot5design.com to create promotion for the shop.

Salt Pig is a Kitchen and Homeware shop in Falmouth. The shop sells bespoke, vintage kitchen and homeware. Many of the items are bespoke and created by local artists in and around Falmouth. The range includes porcelian, shaped metal from various retro and vintage eras.

I had to choose colours from one colour palette, to produce stylised artwork which can be made into a seamless pattern. The 4 best designs have been chosen to appear in advertising campaigns for Salt Pig, Kitchen and Homeware shop. Which sells kitchen and homeware from the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50, 60s, 70s

The illustrations work will reflect the products for the sale, my final illustrations are shown above. Paper Bags (brown background), Shopping Thoughts Clouds (blue sky background), Kitchenware (Yellow background) and Homeware (green background. The work will be used foremost in advertising campaigns and in other promo for the shop including postcards, stationery, web presence etc.

Castle Beach Textures

Yesterday I went to Castle beach in Falmouth. I took some photos of different textures. Such as shells, moss, seaweed, pebbles, shingle, sand, marble patterned folded rocks and foliage. On top of the photography I have placed some of my illustrations.

The second fayre I went to was selling vintage clothing, I like the mermaid style red hair illustrations on the poster.

Cornwall Painting Experimentation

I am currently staying down in Cornwall Falmouth again. So I thought I would make the most of my time to create new art work. Today I have been experimenting with paint, trying to create a marble effect in acrylics. Using bright contemporary colours such as fluroescent orange.I am planning to create a new body of mixed media illustration, inspired from personal experiences.

Bright Young Things

A current inspiration of mine is the installation and products of the feature Bright Young Things at Selfridges. The store has given the UK's most exciting up-and-coming designers a window, and they have created some exclusive pieces for the store too. These are concept windows, with a space dedicated to each young designer. I like this idea the store has come up with, which helps promote and nurture young creative talent. I think other companies should take inspiration from this concept.

I picked out a few of my favourite pieces from the designers, which you buy on the website online.
A pink wig by Charlie de Mindu. A t-shirt dress by with a beautiful print of skeltons and butterflies interwined, by Alex Noble. A rabbit stuffed toy, made from vintage floral fabric by Jessica Dance.

On the front webpage of my degree

I am now on the front webpage of my degree. I graduated summer 2009, from University College for the Creative Arts, Epsom campus. In the courses section, there is link to fashion promotion and imaging, and my final major project is on the front page of images. I am also on the media wall, which is the background of the entire website. Another graduate on the front page for the same course is Sophie Stevens, who is part of the current Bright Young Things at Selfridges. Her collection of fashion illustration t-shirts are stocked in the Oxford Street store.

My degree I studied was BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion & Imaging at UCA Epsom is an unique and exciting course which teaches you the intellectual, practical and professional skills you need to succeed in a career in promotion and communication for the global fashion industry.
