The life size Harvey Nichols fashion textile dolls, are now available to buy. These dolls I specially made for Harvey Nichols, which were used as mannequins instore to display the designer clothing and accesories. The dolls were on display from 2009 - 2011, around most of the Harvey Nichols stores nationwide. Each doll is unique, there are only 26 available listed above.

Inspiration - Howard Tangye

I managed to visit the drawing fashion illustration exhibition at design museum, just before it closed. The layout of the exhibition was minimalst, which made me feel there should have been a lot more work on show. The work that stood out the most to me was from the illustrator Howard Tangye, who held a workshop as part of the exhibition. He uses paint in a beautiful way, which is a inspiration to me. His work has a similar to feel to Egon Schiele's, Tangye is a comtemporary take on portraiture.

Inspiration - Ladies Day Royal Ascot

Today is Ladies Day at Royal Ascot horse racing. Which I am watching on BBC, I always like looking at the fashion on show. This year is the 300 years anversiary of Ascot, so I decided to search for photographs of the most beautiful and quirky hats of the event from the current and past.

The most beautiful hats tend to be designed by either Stephen Jones or Phillip Treacy. Jones current spring summer collection, 'Drifting and Dreaming' catwalk is shown on the tv programme. The catwalk was a collarboration with Jasper Conran, I think the year he worked with Vivienne Westwood was a much more exiciting show. He also is working with the British fashion council to help new milliners into the business. One new designer who caught my eye is Piers Atkinson, who produces contemporary designed hats, using oversized apples and cherries.

The more quirky hats are normal designed by different brands to advertise a product. Such as Cadburys, I enjoy looking at the attention seeking hats more. One with a ipad on the front, one with a platter of cucumber sandwiches, quisessentially english themed.

Inspiration - Couture Brighton

Yesterday I went to the exhibition Couture Brighton, in the Brighton museum & art gallery. The flyer grabbed my attention with the roughly brown papered packaged manequins. Reminded me of the packaged models of Martin Margiela. One of the works displayed was by Juliana Sissons, who I met briefly earlier in the year when she was a artist in residence in the V&A, Sackler Centre.

As part of Brighton Fashion Week 2011 the Fashion & Style Gallery will feature 'Couture Brighton'. Using the city as a source of inspiration, some of Brighton’s best known and dynamic fashion designers have worked in collaboration to produce nine new gowns that demonstrate the skill, opulence and art of the Couturier. The gowns will be staged in the costume gallery at Brighton Museum against a beautiful mirrored backdrop to create an installation of breathtaking beauty and exquisite detail.

I most like the feather dress by Suzie Turner. With a corseted top half, the dress is made from goose feathers, with a red lace underlay. I think there must of been some sort of treatment given to the feathers to retain the stark whiteness. The aesthetic reminded me of Alexander McQueen's style. I also enjoyed seeing other pieces of fashion in the gallery, a quaint embroided 1930s handbag. A punk Vivienne Westwood style top. Also a tartan ensemble by Emanuel Ungaro. On the way out near the shop, I saw a Grayson Perry vase. One of his vases covered with less controversial illustrations. I always enjoy seeing his work pop up.
