Get that all-important edge with the best contemporary design talent from the UK and around the globe at Pulse 2010. This year, Pulse will be packed with over 500 designers and manufacturers showcasing their most exciting new ranges.

It's where the cream of retail come to source innovative gift, fashion and interior accessories products that will get them noticed. With more international companies than ever before now exhibiting at Pulse, UK buyers will have a fantastic opportunity to source products that are currently featured in some of the best stores on the continent, including
unique never-been-seen-before pieces from Japan, Denmark, Norway, Italy and France. These will be shown alongside exciting collections from home-grown talent, including Nina Campbell, Absolute Zero Degrees, Blue Marmalade, Michelle Mason, Jan Constantine, The Garden Trading Company and The New English Co.

Launchpad at Pulse is once again the area to see new design talent first and has over 100 exhibitors from the UK and overseas confirmed. Curating the section and judging the Launchpad Awards this year will be Thorsten Van Elten. Well-known for seeking out, producing and distributing quirky and unusual items, he will be offering the winner the opportunity to be stocked in his online shop www.thorstenvanelten.com.

Thorsten will be joined by visionary brand Normann Copenhagen who are returning to Pulse to select a winner for ‘Best New Product in Launchpad.’ Having been snapped up by Liberty, Launchpad's 2009 winners, Purewhyte, are back this year with an exciting collection. Also showcasing her new products will be Philippe Stark ‘Design for Life’ competition winner, Ilsa Parry and other designers set to catapault into the retail world such as Elsie Dodds, Lost and Found Design, Takae Mitzutani, Thornback & Peel, Welovekarou and many more.

In 2010, Launchpad will include the 'Selected by Central St Martins' area, where the next generation of designers, emerging and as yet un-discovered design graduates, will have the opportunity to feature products that are ready to go in-store. This will be run alongside ‘Visually Odd,’ a brand-new initiative organised in conjunction with Curate 40.

‘ Cherry Hurren's fashion dolls - 12 trends as done by 12 designers, translated into the most fashionable of fabric dolls - caught our eye.’ Jessica Bumpus, Vogue.com

‘ Around the escalators in store (Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge), a catwalk front row has been constructed using simple illustrations and giant, hand made rag dolls dressed in designer outfits. Each doll has her own strong personality; each being made from different printed fabric, sculpted woolly hair, super-sized buttons for eyes and hand-stitched noses and mouths’. Amanda Carr, WGSN Trend Newsletter

‘We loved the London Fashion Week installation at The Hospital Club. Fashion craft designer Cherry Hurren individually knitted the dolls, hand-picking their spring/summer outfits especially for Fashion Week.’ 25 February, 2010 Vogue.com Blog

Prada Spring/Summer 2010

One of my favourite collections for this Spring/Summer 2010, is the Prada runway collection. I particularly like how the hair and make up is styled. With volume straight long hair, side parted and tied into bunches. Teamed with vibrant coral lipgloss, and bright oversized sunglasses. I appreciate as well the silk printed imagery of people on beaches on to simple loose fitting seperates. It is a sophistcated beach look.

On the prada website, there is a short fashion film titled, 'Postcards Audio Tale'. This film shows a model wearing the postcard design sunglasses her head rotating, in time to the speech about different hoilday locations. I have found some images, of vintage style postcards of the places that the film mentions. If I was to buy one item from the collection it would be the lime green postcard sunglasses.

Cornwall

Last week I went down to Cornwall, as my boyfriend had a interview to study a masters in Creative Advertising at the Art University College Falmouth. He got a place on the course, which is amazing, as it is a top course to progress into the advertising industry.

Whilst at Falmouth I did some photography of the area, as it is a beautiful landscape. I mostly photographed flowers, which images I think juxtapose well with the art work from Lily Van Der Stokker. Who is currently on show at the Tate situated in St Ives. Her work is playful, and consists of paintings straight on to walls, and sculptures. Her colour pallete is neon and pastels. Her prints have also been used as a collaboration with Viktor and Rolf.

Lily van der Stokker is a Dutch artist based in Amsterdam and New York. Most often taking the form of elaborate and decorative wall drawings, her pieces have a child-like innocence and an adolescent naivety. They deal in a disarmingly unashamed and exuberant way with ideas of beauty, love, relationships, family and the everyday. Despite, or perhaps because of, their apparent simplicity, van der Stokker's works are often challenging and she has come to be seen as an increasingly important artist in the growing discourse of post-feminist practice. This show will be the largest exhibition of her work to date in the UK.

Van der Stokker plays on stereotypical femininity, developing a style she calls "nonshouting feminism" to explore ideas that seem to be forbidden in art, especially the decorative, the sentimental and the "nice". Her demure medium: coloured-pencil drawings on A4 paper, use the palette of baby clothes and concern the gap between the art world and the creativity of everybody else. At Tate St Ives, van der Stokker will present a series of wall drawings, furniture works and framed drawings on paper in the spectacular, curved, sea-facing galleries.

Born in 1954, her work found prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s as she began exhibiting in important exhibitions and institutions across the world including the Pompidou Centre, Paris and Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis.
